Dr. Ohler created the Educational Technology Program at the University of Alaska Southeast in 1986 and served as its director until 2002, at which time he became President's Professor of Educational Technology and Distance Learning. He joined the Geography Program in 2005 as a program developer, and runs Stories of Culture and Place, a program supporting K-12 students telling original stories using traditional and digital methods.
He speaks, writes, and teaches extensively in the areas of e-learning, digital narrative and instructional technology. Recent publications include "The World of Digital Storytelling" (Education Leadership, December. 2005) and "Distance Education at UAS - A Case Study" (Journal of Distance Education, Volume 20, Issue 1, Spring 2005); co-authored with Lynne Schrum.
