
This is the home of the University of Alaska Geography Program (UAGP), an Alaska-wide resource that provides information and training in the field of geography and related disciplines. UAGP's primary mission is to deliver the state's only degree programs in geography, and to serve as a public resource to help and promote inquiry into scientific, economic and cultural issues related to geography. A new M.N.R.M.G. in Natural Resources Management and Geography was approved by the UA Board of Regents in June, 2008. The degree is designed to prepare students for a management career in natural resources planning and administration , communication and public information, and operational innovation, improvement and impact assessment. This professional degree can be selected by students interested in the Peace Corps Master's International program.

The UA Geography Program has expanded the Bachelor of Science Program to offer students more options while pursuing a B.S. in Geography: Landscape Analysis and Climate Change Studies, Geographic Information Science and Technology, and Environmental Studies. These new options were designed to prepare students to understand, live, and work in a dynamic and changing world.

The UA Geography Program has revised the Bachelor of Arts Program. The geography B.A. degree provides broad cultural training and background in the liberal arts with an emphasis in the Circumpolar North and Pacific Rim Studies. The B.A. also provides a geographic perspective based on these regions and prepares students for careers in management, policy, teaching, field-based research, regional planning, and private sector careers. The B.A. also provides an excellent foundation for advanced studies in a wide range of academic disciplines.
